Carrier Free
CF stands for Carrier Free (CF). We typically add Bovine Serum Albumin (BSA) as a carrier protein to our recombinant proteins. Adding a carrier protein enhances protein stability, increases shelf-life, and allows the recombinant protein to be stored at a more dilute concentration. The carrier free version does not contain BSA.
In general, we advise purchasing the recombinant protein with BSA for use in cell or tissue culture, or as an ELISA standard. In contrast, the carrier free protein is recommended for applications, in which the presence of BSA could interfere.

Scientific Data
When Recombinant Human SCF (Mammalian-expressed) Protein (7466-SC) is coated at 1 ug/mL, 100 uL/well, Biotinylated Recombinant Human CD117/c-kit Fc Chimera Avi-tag binds with an ED50 of 0.05-0.30 μg/mL.
2 μg/lane of Biotinylated Recombinant Human CD117/c-kit Fc Chimera Avi-tag (Catalog # AVI10703) was resolved with SDS-PAGE under reducing (R) and non-reducing (NR) conditions and visualized by Coomassie® Blue staining, showing bands at 100-120 kDa and 200-240 kDa, respectively.
Background: CD117/c-kit
Stem cell factor receptor (SCF R), also known as c-Kit and CD117, is a type III receptor tyrosine kinase that acts as the receptor for the cytokine SCF (1, 2). Mature human SCF R consists of an extracellular domain (ECD) with five tandem immunoglobulin-like domains, a single transmembrane segment, and a cytoplasmic region with a split tyrosine kinase domain. Within the ECD, human SCF R shares 73% and 76% amino acid sequence identity with mouse and rat SCF R, respectively. At least 4 SCF R isoforms, produced by alternative mRNA splicing, have been identified in humans and 2 are characterized by the presence or absence of a tetrapeptide sequence (GNNK) in the juxtamembrane region of the ECD (3, 4). Human SCF R is expressed in embryonic stem cells and is involved in regulation of cell survival and proliferation, hematopoiesis, gametogenesis, and melanogenesis (1, 2, 5, 6). SCF R interacts with noncovalent dimers of transmembrane or soluble SCF to trigger receptor dimerization and initiate signaling (7). Our Avi-tag Biotinylated rhSCF R features biotinylation at a single site contained within the Avi-tag, a unique 15 amino acid peptide. Protein orientation will be uniform when bound to streptavidin-coated surface due to the precise control of biotinylation and the rest of the protein is unchanged so there is no interference in the protein's bioactivity.
