Preparation and Storage
Background: SLAIN1
SLAIN1 (SLAIN motif-containing protein 1) is a 61 kDa (predicted) member of the SLAIN motif containing family of proteins. It is expressed in embryonic stem cells plus cells of the neural tube, and also appears in multiple adult tissues. Its function is unclear. Mouse SLAIN1 is 579 amino acids (aa) in length. It contains a coiled‑coil region (aa 21‑56), a Pro-rich segment (aa 64‑160), and one C-terminal SLAIN (SerLeuAlaIleAsn) motif. There are two potential splice variants. One shows an alternate start site at Met262, while another shows a 50 aa insertion after Gln231. Over aa 262‑483, mouse SLAIN1 shares 96% and 92% aa identity with rat and human SLAIN1, respectively.
